COP18: Time is running out to act on global warming

COP18 (28/11/12) – Emmanuel Seck, Program Manager at Energy, Environment and Development says that civil society has been fighting since Copenhagen and expecting to see countries sign up to legally binding targets.

He warns that we are running out of time, and says they need to remind developed countries of their responsibility, calling on them to pledge more ambition.

He talks about the limited power that civil society has in the negotiations where politicians have to make all of the decisions but that they are working on the ground to come up with tangible activities to tackle and adapt to climate change.

He says the minimum he wants to see in Doha is a second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol and countries showing how they will move to make the Green Climate Fund operational and fill it by 2020.
